Session TE21: Visual Analytics
February 19, 9:00 - 9:45
Abstract:
Visual analytics is an interactive and iterative process in which data is presented using visual paradigms to discover previously unknown patterns and trends. Some questions simply cannot be answered using standard mathematical or statistical approaches and visual analytics supports an exploratory framework, with no pre-defined hypotheses because the data guides/drives the analysis which plays to strengths of human cognition. This discussion provides background regarding the representation of data and how it can be mapped into visual paradigms - with an emphasis on the use of link analysis techniques. There will be a number of patterns presented based on real-world encounters. Audience participation is anticipated.
